Graduation

Overall Grade

Student will receive grade right after each part of State Final Exam (Thesis defense and Humanities exam). After that, overall grade will be calculated as follows:

The individual grades from the three Comprehensive Exams (Comprehensive Exam in Social Sciences, Philosophy, History) and the grades from the two parts of the final exam (weighted twice as much as the grades from the Comprehensive Exams) are added together. The result is divided by 7 and the arithmetic mean is calculated. The arithmetic mean is the final grade for the entire course of study.

Example:

CE in Philosophy 1

CE in History 2

CE in Social Sciences 3

Defense of bc thesis: 2

Humanities Exam: 1

Calculation: 1+2+3+2x(2+1)=1.7. The total result of the study is 2.

All students retain their student status up until the day they successfully complete all final state examinations (SZZk) and defend their MA or BA thesis.

Graduation with distinction

Student will graduate with distinction if:

  • They do not have to resit any part of the final state examination (i.e. they completed the final state examinations on their first try).

  • They do not receive the grade “good” from any part of the state final examination.

  • The overall grade for the state final examinations is “excellent”.

  • Their cumulative average grade achieved throughout their studies is 1,5 at the most. You can find your average grade in the SIS by clicking on Summary of exam results – Validations and choose Calculate study average for evaluation of “graduation with honour”

These students will receive a special one-time scholarship for graduating. If you met the requirements for graduation with distinction, you will be informed about it by e-mail.

Diploma

Before you officially receive your diploma at the graduation ceremony, you can ask the Student Administration Office to generate an official confirmation of graduation for you.

Usually, it´s not possible to receive it right after the exam, but a few days after (when you are graduated in the system).

Closer information on graduation ceremonies can be found here.
